About Foodditive

What is Foodditive?
Foodditive is a community site providing comprehensive information on food additives (Food + Additive = Foodditive). There are growing concerns around clarity of labelling in food ingredients and additives, and we intend Foodditive as a central resource for discussion and sharing.
We do not believe that all food additives are bad for you -- some are very necessary to help prevent food spoilage, or as an aid to improving food texture. The choice of what you eat is ultimately yours, but we aim to present a balanced summary of available information so you can make an informed decision.
The Foodditive Team
The Foodditive team came together through our day jobs at Grox, a software and web development company based in Sydney, Australia. While exploring the original idea we realised we already had a great variety of experience to share .. and with the blessing of management, undertook this as a worthwhile in-house project.
Stephen - Foodditive Champion
Stephen is a geek father, and mostly to blame for starting the Foodditive site. When confronted by cryptic names and numbers for food additives his first inclination was to find more information on what these additives actually were, where they came from, and how they might affect his family. As the director of a software development company, he also saw the opportunity to share this information with the greater community of concerned parents and individuals with specialised dietary requirements.

Suzy - Foodditive Contributor
Suzy is a mother of two. Her oldest child has ADHD, and also went through the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital's (RPA) Allergy Unit elimination diet to identify intolerances to certain food types and additives including nitrates, salicylates, food colouring and MSG. Eliminating these foods and additives has improved the hyperactivity to a managable level, but she still needs to promote awareness amongst family, friends, and classmates to keep a strict diet for her children. Suzanne has an Associate Diploma in Pathology Techniques and worked in the field for over 10 years.

Pam - Foodditive Advisor
Pam was diagnosed with multiple food intolerances more than ten years ago. Initially medical professionals were unable to correctly determine the cause of her unusual symptoms, but eventually she was sent to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital's (RPA) Allergy Unit to undertake an extensive elimination diet which identified reactions to gluten, salicylates, amines, food colourings, preservatives, nitrates, and synthetic antioxidants. Pam has a background in nutrition (Dip. Nutrition) and has done extensive research into food preparation and recipes to cater to her dietary requirements.

Andy - Foodditive Developer
Andy has been fighting a weight problem for more than a decade, gaining and losing tens of kilos at a time. As a very heavy diet soft drink consumer (2L or more per day), he got quite worried when he found out about the suspected negative effects of aspartame in human health. A trial two year diet with no artificial sweeteners made him feel much more energetic and alert. He wants to raise awareness of this fact and encourage further research. As the main developer of Foodditive's iPhone Edition, he has made many suggestions that he hopes will help others in a similar situation.
